Neither cutting edge, nor avant-guard, nor pictorial are words descriptive of my photographic vision. My photographs are about the light at night. Nocturnal, urban landscape photography may be the antithesis of the heroic western landscape of the Ansel Adams tradition. I would place my work left of an intersection between this tradition and the landscape and architectural photographs of Michael Kenna, George Tice and Bernice Abbott.
My monochromatic, time exposed cityscapes are, to me, at once familiar and ambiguous, heroic and reserved. They are fun to make. I am fortunate to have studied with John Sexton, George Tice, Bruce Birnbaum and Michael Kenna. A new frontier has openned with my nocternal color landscapes.
These images are pigment prints which represent digital photographs or high resolution film scans, which are split toned and printed on Hahnemuhle Fine Art Paper (17x22 or 22x28) with Epson Ultrachrome ink.
